M.1 Buying Out Contract Years
a) Any player can be released at any time except during Recess (Championship game - February 20th).
b) Dropping players under contract will result in a penalty. That penalty will follow the below tiered structure based on contract years left:
Years 1 & 2 = 5 PD's/yr
Years 3 & 4 = 10 PD's/yr
Years 5 & 6 = 15 PD's/yr
Example: I waive player A whom has a 4 year contract. I will incur a 30 PD penalty (5 PD's for each year 1 & 2 and 10 PD's for year 3 & 4).
c) Franchises may elect to buyout a specific number of years on a players contract without waiving the player outright. The cost to perform this function will follow the above tiered system for releasing players.
Example: I buyout 2 years of player A's 3 year contract. I will incur a 10 PD penalty (5 PD for 1st year and 5 PD for 2nd Year).
M.2 NFL Free Agents
a) An NFL free agent may be dropped with no penalty to the owner.
b) The player must be recognized by myfantasyleague.com as an NFL free agent; meaning that the player has no NFL team abbreviations next to his name. Although sometimes MFL can be delayed in their status changes, we will follow MFL's designations at all times.
M.3 Player Retirement
a) Any player who goes into retirement (defined as publically announcing their retirement) may not be placed on injured reserve.
b) They may be dropped at no cost to the owner notwithstanding their contract status.
c) If an owner picks up a player who is considered retired normal drop penalties will apply if the are not designated as a FA since you knowingly picked them up with that status.
Since sometimes news on this subject is cloudy, if there is any doubt, it may be best to present the Commissioner with a link to something that gives proof that retirement papers having been filed or announcement has been made.
M.4 Suspended Players
Suspended Players are designated with an (S) next to their name and may not be placed on the IR and may not released without penalty. They are treated the same as any other rostered player.
M.5 Player Deaths
When there is a player death, he may be dropped with no penalty regardless of any status.
