L.1 The Three Phases of Contract Assignment
Phase One: Season Rollover - August 1st - 15th
Phase Two: Phase One Assignment - Start of Week 1
Phase Three: Week 1 - End of the season
L.2 Assigning Contracts
a) Players contracts are to be announced in your Team Locker.
b) All players acquired during Phase One of contract assignment must be given a contract by the owner, unless they are traded prior to the August 15 contract assignment deadline.
c) Players can be assigned contracts as late as August 15th at 11:59 p.m. EST, but no earlier then August 1st.
d) When a team decides to assign contracts, he must do so to all players on his roster in the same post and the total contract years for all Phase One off-season acquisitions plus existing players, except those that reside on the Taxi Squad, must total 125 contract years or less.
e) Players that MFL designates as "IR" prior to contract assignment cannot be placed on your team's IR until AFTER contract assignment is posted and the team is under the 125 year cap.
f) All players acquired during Phase One cannot be dropped prior to contract assignment without penalty. Any Phase One aquired player dropped prior to contract assignment will incurred a 5 PD penalty. It does not matter if they are designated as a FA by MFL for the purposes of contract assignment.
g) Once a team declares their Phase One team contracts, they are final and cannot be altered for any reason, except by permission or discretion of the commissioner.
h) Contracts can be as short as 1 year and no more than 6 years.
i) You may not demote any rookie drafted in rounds 1-5 to the taxi squad prior to Phase One contract assignment.
j) Players acquired via Blind Bid between Phase One contract assignment and the start of Week 1 can be given a contract between 1 and 6 years, however the owner must assign this contract in their clubhouse within 48 hours of acquisition or the start of week 1, whichever comes first.
k) Players acquired during Phase Three (Week 1 - Championship week) are automatically assigned a 1 year contract. No Exceptions.
l) If an owner fails to assign Phase One contracts by the August 15th deadline, the commissioner will use its discretion to make a determination on what action will be taken. The available actions including, without limitation, an extension with penalty and warning; commissioner contract assignment with penalty and warning; or league expulsion. Every case is different and will treated as such.
m) IF A TEAM FAILS TO ASSIGN A FEW OF THEIR CONTRACTS (a.k.a. misses players during contract assignment) OR IS OVER THE CAP DURING CONTRACT ASSIGNMENT. THE COMMISSIONER WILL MAKE THE APPROPRIATE ADJUSTMENTS WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE OWNER. Commissioner will step into the shoes of the owner and will assign the contract he would as if he owned that team. This isn't meant as a punishment, but rather to prevent the commissioner from having to come back to finish contracts for people two times. The process is long enough. If the Commissioner assigns contracts under this Section L.2(m) they are considered final under Section L.2(g). Make sure your contracts are complete and accurate. Failure to assign your contracts may result in you being removed from the league. If you are removed from the league under these circumstances no refund will be given.
L.3 Expired Contracts
a) Players contracts will be rolled back by 1 year on February 20th of each off-season.
b) Players with expiring contracts are defined by having 0 contract years.
c) Players with expiring contracts can be tagged for possible extension. See Section N.
d) Players with expiring contracts may be traded until March 20th at 11:59 PM when the tag deadline expires. After which, players with expiring contracts can no longer be traded and will be dropped by the Commissioner.
